Group Photos: Families and Friends

I was first approached to take group photos for a prom group one of the first years I had a camera. So, doing what most beginners would do, I opened up the aperture to guarantee everyone’s faces were in focus and to my surprise that nice, bokeh background I enjoyed in many of my individual portrait photos disappeared. After lots of trial and error, I am happy to be able to take crisp, well-lit photos where everyone’s in focus while still keeping the creamy bokeh backgrounds! Starting with individual’s portraits, group portraits definitely made me take a different approach to the way I direct shoots. And I have undoubtedly improved from those beginning pictures.
